LENSES PROJECT

In May 2021, ECOADAPTA started the LENSES (Learning and action alliances for Nexus Environments) project, funded by the PRIMA (Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area) program of the European Union, which will be carried out over three years by a consortium of 12 partners from 6 countries spread across the Mediterranean basin.

The central thread of LENSES is the nexus between Water, Ecosystems and Food (WEF) in a way that favors an equitable allocation of resources through an active and consensual multi-stakeholder engagement.

ECOADAPTA is leading one of the project work packages focused on promoting a strong participatory approach in the development and application of LENSES methodologies, specifically through the implementation of Learning and Action Alliances.

These communities will operate at different scales and will allow the integration of different types of knowledge in order to achieve integrated methods capable of addressing the challenges posed by the management of the nexus in a context of increasing scarcity of resources.

In addition, ECOADAPTA is leading one of the seven LENSES pilots, which will be developed in the Doñana region. This pilot will develop a participatory process, based on visioning techniques, which aims to build desired future scenarios together with pathways towards these scenarios that include the analysis of policies, measures, technological improvements and infrastructure improvements necessary for these scenarios to come to pass.

These scenarios will be complemented and supported by a system dynamics model, and integrated water accounting and climate risk assessment studies.

With our participation in LENSES, ECOADAPTA aims to contribute to the agricultural, environmental and water sustainability of the Doñana system, which has a very high environmental and economic value and is particularly threatened by climate change.
